Our dream wedding above the rooftops of Düsseldorf

In the beginning of our planning process, we wanted to have a big barbecue party with all the people we know. Our dream was that everyone would bring something to share and we could have a South African Braai (barbecue). But since we wanted to get married as soon as possible and the weather in March in Germany is not predictable, we decided to invite close friends to a small Braai above the rooftops of Düsseldorf.

In the beginning of our planning process we wanted to have a big barbecue party with all the people we know. Our dream was that everyone would bring something to share and we could have a South African Braai (barbecue). But since we wanted to get married as soon as possible and the weather in March in Germany is not predictable, we decided to invite close friends to a small Braai above the rooftops of Düsseldorf.

In the morning my bridesmaids came to my house and helped me with the dress and make-up. I am so grateful that a friend of mine is a make-up specialist. She gave me a hand right away, so I didn't have to worry about anything. Another highlight was that my best friend flew in from South Africa.

One day before the wedding we went to the hairdresser together, who gave us a tingle with fine champagne.

The day itself could not have been more beautiful. Faithful friends lovingly made decorations and set up chairs. We got the meat directly from the specialist including a big grill. As it is usual with a real Braai, the ladies prepared the salads and the gentlemen enjoyed their beer by the fire. But of course, we had our wedding ceremony before we started the meal. It was a very memorable moment, especially because we had decided to give God the glory before our wedding vows and sang our favorite song: "For the One" by Brian and Jenn Johnson. We just love making music together!

Although I really wanted to join in the cooking, our photographer Elisabeth Strack persuaded us to walk a few meters to take pictures. We were happy to accept her invitation to do so. But my feet were grateful when we got back to the location. 12cm heels are not part of my daily wardrobe!

After dinner, we did some worship with open mic and instruments. A friend had brought his drums and we had guitars with us. There was also a piano right in the location.

And then, in the early afternoon, we went to the airport and flew directly on our honeymoon – in our wedding dress. Where to? To South Africa of course!
